Known Donation

What is a known donor?

A known donor is a person who is personally known to the intended recipient(s) and chooses to donate eggs, sperm, or embryos to help them build their family. Unlike an unknown (or clinic-recruited) donor, a known donor already has an established relationship with the recipient, which may include a family member, close friend, colleague, or another trusted individual.

Known donation can offer recipients the opportunity to undertake their fertility journey with someone they know and trust, while providing greater transparency regarding the donor's background, medical history, and family heritage. For some families, having a pre-existing connection with the donor can provide reassurance and support throughout the treatment process.

Because known donation involves existing personal relationships, careful consideration is given to the emotional, legal, and practical implications for all parties involved. Donors and recipients undergo comprehensive medical screening, genetic assessment and counselling to ensure that everyone has a clear understanding of their roles, expectations, and responsibilities.

At Oasis, we support known donor arrangements, whether they are local, interstate or overseas, through a structured and compassionate process designed to protect the wellbeing of donors, recipients, and any children born as a result of treatment. Our experienced team provides guidance at every stage, helping all parties navigate the medical, legal, and emotional aspects of donor conception with confidence and clarity.
