Becoming a Donor Recipient

Choosing to use donor eggs, sperm, or embryos is a significant and deeply personal decision. For many people, donor conception offers a valuable pathway to parenthood when other options are not possible or have not been successful. The decision is made after careful consideration of a range of factors, including your medical history, fertility assessment results, genetic considerations, family-building goals, and personal circumstances.

Our Local Donor Program is currently being developed and will be launching soon. We look forward to sharing more information in the very near future!!

Frequently Asked Questions

What information will I receive about my donor?

You will receive relevant non identifying information about your donor, including medical and family history, as well as personal details such as education, interests and other characteristics. This information can help you make an informed decision when selecting a donor.

No. Donation in Western Australia is altruistic, so donors cannot be paid for their donation. Approved or reasonable expenses associated with the donation process may be reimbursed where applicable.

Your partner’s involvement will depend on your individual circumstances and treatment pathway. Where a partner is part of the treatment process, they may need to participate in consultations, counselling and the required consent process. Our team will explain what is required for your circumstances.

No. A donor does not have legal parental rights or responsibilities for a child born through their donation. The recipient parent or parents are recognised as the legal parents and assume parental rights and responsibilities.

Can my donor change their mind?

Yes. A donor can withdraw their consent at any time before their sperm, eggs or embryos are used in treatment. If this happens, our team will discuss the available options with you and support you through the next steps.

Yes. Donor conception in Western Australia is not anonymous. Identifying donor information is recorded under state legislation and may be accessed by donor conceived people when they reach the relevant age and meet the applicable legal requirements.

This may be possible, subject to donor availability, consent requirements and Western Australian limits on the number of recipient families that can use a donor. Our donor team can discuss your family building plans and help you understand what options are available.

If your circumstances change and you no longer require your allocated donor, please speak with our donor team. They can explain the options available for the donor allocation and any stored donor sperm, taking into account consent, storage arrangements and applicable donor limits.
