ZyMōt is a gentler, centrifuge-free approach that naturally selects highly motile sperm with favourable characteristics for use in ICSI. The process helps our embryologists identify and select sperm with better movement and DNA integrity for fertilisation.
ZyMōt is an advanced sperm selection technology used to prepare sperm for intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI). It provides our embryologists with a gentler way to select sperm with better movement, shape and DNA integrity for your treatment.
Rather than spinning the sample in a centrifuge, ZyMōt allows the healthiest, most motile sperm to separate naturally by swimming through a specially designed device. Because ICSI involves injecting a single sperm directly into each egg, careful sperm selection is important.
Traditional sperm preparation often relies on centrifugation, where the sample is spun at high speed to separate sperm from the surrounding fluid. This process may place stress on sperm and can increase the production of reactive oxygen species, which may affect sperm DNA.
Studies have shown that sperm selected with ZyMōt tend to have lower levels of DNA fragmentation and fewer reactive oxygen species than sperm prepared using conventional methods. They also show better overall motility and a higher proportion of normally shaped sperm.
Sperm DNA quality is one of many factors that can influence embryo development. While ZyMōt cannot guarantee a pregnancy, it helps us give each egg the best possible sperm at the point of injection.
ZyMōt ICSI may be recommended for patients undergoing ICSI, particularly where there is:
ZyMōt requires a sample with enough motile sperm to swim through the device. If on the day of your procedure your sample is not suitable, our embryologists will prepare it using the most appropriate conventional method.
